HRH The Earl of Wessex announces partnership between Cambridge International and The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award in Malaysia
Cambridge International has extended its partnership with The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award to give Cambridge schools in Malaysia access to an exclusive package of support when they begin offering the Award.
The exciting news was announced by HRH the Earl of Wessex in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday 11 September. He was joined in the capital by Ben Schmidt, Regional Director, South East Asia & Pacific, Cambridge International, and Ng Kim Huat, Country Director, Malaysia, Cambridge International.
Cambridge International and The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award both believe that learning should not be confined to the classroom but also take place in the school environment as well as the wider community.
By working together we can help young people to grow into confident, responsible, reflective, innovative and engaged learners, and create opportunities for them to develop skills, get physically active, serve their local community and experience a sense of adventure.
His Excellency Charles Hay MVO, British High Commissioner to Malaysia said: ‘Education has helped build the deep people-to-people connection between the UK and Malaysia and shape the longstanding relationship between the two countries. The partnership between The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award and Cambridge International will help strengthen these educational links.”
Ben Schmidt said: “Cambridge International believes students should have a broad and balanced curriculum, and that education should be holistic. Our work with The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award further encourages learning and development beyond the classroom.
“I am incredibly pleased that we are now able to offer this exciting opportunity to our schools in Malaysia. We have a long history of working with schools in the country and they are keen to offer additional extra curricula activities to their students, such as our annual Science Competition.
We have been piloting The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award with our schools in Indonesia and it has been very successful. I hope many schools in Malaysia will take advantage of the benefits we have available to support them in offering the programme to their students.” Cambridge International’s partnership with The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award began in September 2017 and since then we have successfully launched the programme to our schools in Indonesia, India, China, South Africa, Spain and Egypt.
