Events and fundraising

You can get involved with The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation’s work by supporting one of our many exciting events that take place across the year, both in the UK and abroad.  We run a number of events from fundraising galas to those designed to help our supporters to develop a greater understanding of the Award and how it helps millions of young people worldwide to become world ready.

A day at The Blades

One of our valued supporters, Patrick Curran, organised a unique experience for his guests, ‘A Day at the Blades’, raising £30,000 for the Award by selling tickets for this event. Guests tested their driving skills in Formula One race simulators, learnt to hover a helicopter, and experienced the flight of a lifetime in one of the Extra 300LP high performance stunt aircraft operated by The Blades Aerobatic Display Team. Throughout the day they enjoyed hospitality with gourmet food prepared by the on-site chef. The day culminated with a private display from The Blades aerobatic team. Our team worked with Patrick to give him fundraising materials about the Award for his guests and assisting with guest management pre, during & post event. As a result of coming to this event, some of the guests joined our network of philanthropists; becoming long term supporters of the World Fellowship.

Polo Tournament

Through his connections with the Lagos Polo Club, World Fellow and Chair of The International Award for Young People, Nigeria, Mr Wale Edun, organised an exclusive polo tournament with elite players to win ‘The Duke of Edinburgh’s Cup’ at The Lagos Polo Club. Seeking support from corporate sponsors, he raised an incredible £50,000 for The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation and The International Award for Young People, Nigeria. Wale used this opportunity to speak publicly to his guests from the corporate sector about the Award and how it can impact young people and their communities. Our team worked closely with Wale to support him with the promotional materials he needed, as well as promoting this event to our World Fellows in the Africa region.
