ANYANGO BERYL
Award Level:
Bronze,Silver,Gold
Favourite memory of the Award:
The award has given me many core memories from the very start when undertaking the bronze level,,,my special moments are made in This level,,,The Gold level,,,during our expedition in Mount Longonot,,,the aspect of Teamwork came to light,,,I was able to experience the full potential of Teamwork and it's impact,,,this did not just end at the expedition,,teamwork is one special thing I have carried with me to the outside world,,,the expedition was like a go forth into the world and be a helper to your neighbor to those in need,,to that stranger on the streets who genuinely needs your help,,,and all these is because of the years and the journey the award program has walked with me and made me a better person and a better human.
Age:
20
Biggest challenge from doing the Award:
Like all kinds of sporting activities,, expeditions involve exercises and activities that keep the body fit,,,being neither a spots person and someone who frequently does exercise,,the expedition which majorly involved hiking hit my body hard,,I struggled with muscle cramps through the ascension of mount Longonot which generally is made up of ragged terrain,,, even though i had a hard time copying I made it to kilele ngamia summit,,which is the highest peak of Mount Longonot,,,and in a day I had conquered both a Mountain and my greatest fear,,,heights😂and I'm glad.
Country:
KENYA
Have you continued any of your Award activities? If so, what:
All my award activities are special to me,,but I decided to take my skill for the gold award level a notch higher,,I took doing crotchets as a skill,,,i want to perfect this skill and make crotchets of blankets and clothes,,then I want to donate it to the homes of the elderly and the orphanages,,, My country is also known for many street families and children I want to extend a hand to them also reach out to them,,, because they not only lack housing or better else shelter but also clothing,,,and I hope putting more effort to this skill will touch their lives,,,and that's a big goal for me.
Tell us the story behind your photo:
The link in the video section contains both photos and videos of my friends and I throughout the award level this year,,,the year has been very exciting with adventure and more learning and individual change,,,the photos include those of us in the expedition at Mount Longonot,,the silver ceremony which was attended by the Prince of Wessex,,,and the gold ceremony in statehouse chaired by our very own patron the president of Kenya His Excellency Uhuru Mwigai Kenyatta,,,the photos show my happy moments and I might as well say for someone like me who is struggling with my mental health,,it has given me a reason to live,,aside from the adventure,,and the learning,,I see me happy in the photos and that's like a go in my heart that life is still worth it,,,and that more memories are to be made,,all thanks to the Duke Of Edinburgh's International Award.
