Award Level:
Gold
Favourite memory of the Award:
My favourite memory from the Award was definitely collaborating with some of my other friends doing the Award and doing a 3 day tramp around lake waikaremoana. That trip expanded my boundaries of independence and allowed me to experience some special memories with my friends. we kept ourselves entertained with swimming and cards and even more exploring and despite the weather not being too great i loved every moment.
Age:
17
Biggest challenge from doing the Award:
The biggest challenge from my award came from my residential project, i attended a 10 day voyage on the spirit of New Zealand Sailing ship. this was challenging due to knowing no one else on the boat with you as well as taking charge of the entire boat with these people during the trip. I came out of the voyage with many blisters and rope burn from hauling on the sails but also a more flexible mindset toward a challenge.
Country:
New Zealand
Have you continued any of your Award activities? If so, what:
i Have not yet finished my award but am very close, as i was previously doing most of the activities i am doing for my award i will absolutely keep going with them, one of the newer activities from m award is volunteering at an op shop in town the people are lovely and i enjoy chatting with them while i help out, so i will definitely keep up with this as i finish my award.
Tell us the story behind your photo:
My mum took this photo just as i was about to leave on a 10 day voyage on the spirit of New Zealand. As it was at a peak time of Covid, we were all wearing masks and were just about to go off and do a RAT test before boarding the boat. in the background of the image you can see the boat that I, along with 39 other people my age would be living on for the following 10 days.
