Award Level:
Gold
Favourite memory of the Award:
Playing cards in the hut with my group and leaders with a hot dinner after a long day of tramping.
Age:
18
Biggest challenge from doing the Award:
Persevering on a tramp even when we are all sore and tired and the weather is bad. This challenge taught me a lot of resilience and also how to make some good out of what seems to be a bad situation.
Country:
New Zealand
Have you continued any of your Award activities? If so, what:
I have continued playing badminton and I have also continued practicing my skill of mindfulness. Since moving to university it has been a little difficult to keep doing these but I try to make time in my day to do them.
Tell us the story behind your photo:
Our journey was the Tongariro Northern Circuit, but we completed it backward by first tramping to Waihohonu hut, and finishing on the 3rd day by walking from Oturere hut to Whakapapa village. This photo was taken when we had to walk off track. While tramping we got to have the amazing view of Mount Ngauruhoe covered in snow with bright blue skies. Even though we had been tramping for so long that day this moment was definitely a highlight.
