Ryan Joseph Lim
Award Level:
Bronze
Favourite memory of the Award:
My favorite memory of the Award was going to Malang, Indonesia, where we met representatives from CMC Tiga Warna (which is a mangrove conservatory) to learn more about mangroves and plant 200 mangrove trees out of the funds we raised from our fundraising. Supporting their new innovation, we also learned more about Bio Reef Techs, a new innovation to plant and restore coral reefs in Indonesia, where we also decided to release 4 of them in the ocean.
Age:
15
Biggest challenge from doing the Award:
One of the biggest challenge which I had to face was when completing my physical activity section. Since I’m not very keen to sports, it wasn’t my cup of tea. However, another major challenge we faced was dealing with sponsorships and fundings we had to prepare for our service project.
Country:
Indonesia
Have you continued any of your Award activities? If so, what:
Yes, up until now we have kept contact with representatives from CMC Tiga Warna, where they often send us updates and pictures of the mangrove trees and the Bio Reef Techs. Expanding our community, we have also welcomed 10 new members to assist us in continuing this activity. In the future, we also plan to continue the mangrove project for 2023, however, we are currently conducting a separate project called Tanah AirKoe, where this project aims to promote Indonesia’s culture. This project will bring us to orphanages where we will teach them how to make batik, cook traditional foods, and et al. Further expanding our community, we have also formed further partnerships with public figures and major brands in our country.
Tell us the story behind your photo:
After months of hard work, successfully raising 6 million Indonesian rupiah from selling plant kits, I finally planted my first mangrove tree which is one of 200 trees which we planted that day. Up until now, most of the trees have grown well and we are very glad that our campaign which has reached thousands has inspired more people to participate in our community, which is The Green Plate Community.
