Favourite memory of the Award:
Walking in the dark, due to getting lost and losing about 2 hours of daylight, we all had to fish out our head torches and walk along a muddy track which caused many people to fall over. set up our tents by moonlight and cooked under the stars we got to skip the debrief till the morning and instead made a massage train which helped ease the pain of carrying heavy packs.
Age:
15
Biggest challenge from doing the Award:
Getting lost, on our trek, we had to find and walk down an unmarked track which proved to be extremely difficult. And after losing 6 hours we ended up calling the bus to pick us up because we couldn't get out. The group leaders still cannot find the track.
Country:
Australia
Have you continued any of your Award activities? If so, what:
Yes, After this hike I continued to collect all my hours, doing many hours of Physical Education or Hockey, and doing service hours, helping to referee the younger kids and even working at an art gallery for the weekend.
Tell us the story behind your photo:
We had just woken up to the second day of our Duke of Ed Silver Hike, Freezing cold, we emerged from our tent to see the freezing cold ice lying on the ground. The day prior was a lovely warm day spent kayaking down the Gosford River in lovely warm weather, and much to our confusion the night dropped to freezing cold temperatures which had multiple people in lots of pain due to being extremely cold temperatures and a lack of warm clothing.
