This year marks the historic 70th Anniversary of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.
To celebrate seven decades of young people leading change in their communities, we are uniting our global family for an extraordinary day of collective action: UN World Cleanup Day on 20th September!
🌍 The Challenge: One Day, One Goal – Clean Up Our Planet
Whether you can give the whole day or just 1 hour, we are asking every member of our global Award Family to dedicate a bit of time on 20 September to cleaning up their local environment.
Last year, World Cleanup Day mobilised 139 million people across 212 countries to tackle the global waste crisis. With 70 years’ worth of alumni, volunteers, and supporters in our network, the Award community has the power to take this impact to an entirely new level. Let’s show the world what we can achieve together!
📋 How to Take Part
Getting involved is simple. Just follow these four steps:
- Sign Up and Set a Reminder: Create an account on the GOALD app – our official tracking partner – and add the event to your calendar to lock in your plans.
- Log Your Pledge: Choose your clean-up spot (a local park, beach, neighbourhood street, or community centre) and log your pledge on GOALD.
- Invite Others: This isn’t just for active Award participants. Invite family, friends, colleagues, people in your clubs or sports teams. We want absolutely everyone to get involved!
- Act and Record: On 20th September, head out and clean up! Count your rubbish bags, track your hours, and upload your results (and transformation photos!) to GOALD.
📢 Last but not least – Help Spread the Word!
Inspire others to join the movement by sharing your pledge before the event or posting your “before and after” clean-up highlights on social media. Be sure to tag us at @International_Award and use the hashtag #AwardCleanup2026 so we can celebrate your achievements, share your story, and inspire even more people to make a difference!
