Favourite memory of the Award:
I have several favourite memories which says just how much I enjoy delivering the Award to our young people! As Award Leader and Supervisor, one favourite memory is supervising one of our Bronze teams during their Practice Journey. Parked behind several vehicles, and waiting as discreetly as possible some distance away from the slope they would be coming down from, I soon spotted our Bronze team emerging from around the bend down the slope. They were oblivious to the supervising that was going on, chatting away as they made their way down. That moment gave me a feeling of pride and joy to see how well the team was getting along and working together. They were such an enthusiastic bunch!
Then suddenly, halfway down, a couple of them looked up and said something to the others—they had obviously spotted something. I slouched down in my seat, hoping that they had not noticed the vehicle but lo and behold, they started waving and grinning! I was found out! I waved back sheepishly, wondering how they could have spotted me when it was clear that the vehicle blended in with the others… I made a mental note after that to work on my stake-out!

Biggest challenge from doing the Award:
The biggest challenge is ensuring that the adults involved in the Adventurous Journey understand what this section is about—taking young people out of their comfort zone within a safe and secure setting so that the key elements of the Adventurous Journey, which are teamwork in planning and undertaking the journeys against the possible challenges of an unfamiliar environment, are met.

As a souvenir and to motivate the participants, we made these badges for them for their Adventurous Journey. Safe to say, they were very touched by the gesture and some have said that they keep it safe to this day!
