John Paul Stevens
Award Level:
Bronze
Favourite memory of the Award:
My favourite memory of the award was seeing the areas clear out looking like what they once were back thousands of years when Australia was roamed only by aboriginals.
Age:
16
Biggest challenge from doing the Award:
My biggest challenge was having the willpower to go through polluted creeks and thick vines to get a single bottle, sometimes I would think "its just one bottle why bother", but then I would persevear and get the small rubbish bits. Other times I would return to spots I had already cleared out only to see them covered in rubbish again, these were the hardest times, to think that everything I was doing was for nothing, this mindset shaped and changed turning me into the man I am today.
Country:
Australia
Have you continued any of your Award activities? If so, what:
I have continued collecting rubish wherever I go, be it at school, on the road, etc. I have also continued to help my friends increase their community service hours for the program several times.
Tell us the story behind your photo:
This photo is a collage of most of the times I went into my local bushland to pick up rubbish. The program was a huge success and I am proud of what has been done.
